Be Creative
I'm a super nerd and I really like filmmaking. So, naturally, I've been watching analytical videos online and this one content creator's channel showcases specific filmmakers and how they each have their own styles (or dogma, almost) of how they photograph or film. You're probably familiar with some of them: think Roger Deakins, Wes Anderson, and the like. Well, one of them was really interesting to me and that was a video about digital vs. film, and high resolution vs. low resolution. It really got me thinking of what can be done with filmmaking. A lot of movies that look like film are actually shot digitally. It was really interesting to me that you don't need super-high, rad, super-crispy capturing equipment in order to make footage look really old or really refined.
So to prove it to myself, I grabbed my most inexpensive camera and lens, added a fancy Pro-Mist filter to give my photos are little more of a cinematic look/feel, and popped outside for a quick creative shoot in order to challenge myself and see if the look I had in mind was actually possible to attain.
Inspired by films like 'Schindler's List' and 'Jackie', here's a short tutorial of sorts on making your colour photos look a little more old fashion-ey, and what it takes to achieve that "trapped in time" look.
