Goodbye, Studio D: Parts 1 & 2

“Life won’t always be like this.”

A saying that carries a lot of meaning for me (Matt). The good, the great, the sad, the challenging, all those moments are just that, moments. They come and they go. They are part of my journey. "Studio D" is now a part of the past for us. Studio D is the name of our commercial brand of services - we named it after our studio. In The Two Twenty, the basement studios are named 'A' through 'H'. We were in 'D'. Our friend Steve Thompson, who is the owner of Hardpressed here in Saskatoon, was chatting with us when we were doing the rebranding and suggested we used our location name in the brand name. After a bit of consideration, we fell in love with the name. We *will* keep the name, but we are saying goodbye to the space itself.

It’s emotional.

This place has been home for us. We were really settled in. We had a space that worked so well for doing what we do; a place where we shared so many memories with our clients. It has been good to us. It’s been good to me. Before we left, I asked Ryley to make a short walk-through video of the space. So, for one last time, we cleaned up the studio and set it up for what the space looked like when we had a client coming in for a session.

I’m getting choked up just writing this.

When I was starting out as a photographer, it wasn’t long before a studio was on my dream list. Looking at this studio, it is more than I ever imagined. Having the best cameras, a way to make prints, a place to share the work we create, and having a world class team to bring it all together...it’s magical.

I’m sad to say goodbye, but I'm looking forward to making new memories, experiences, and growing our team in our new studio.

And so we moved…

I (Matt) have great expectations about making big purchases/decisions. As I’ve said in the past: New investments - like equipment - have to both help us do our job and make it easier. This new space will achieve both for us. Our team is growing. And so are our ideas and creative appetites.

We put a lot of work into making ‘Studio D’ our home and not just an office, and as hard as it is to leave it, we’re confident that our new studio will serve us well in the future. It’ll be a place that we can learn to be creative all over again; it’ll be somewhere that we can host workshops, somewhere we can record podcasts and print canvases for our clients to showcase in their homes. And yes - we will continue to do Reveals for those specials moments we’ve captured for you.

The studio space will change. But the heart behind it will only continue to grow.

Thank you to those that have been here from the start and to those that have joined us along the way. We’re looking forward to making new memories in this space, and welcoming new clients and old friends into it.

Chat soon.
